DMI was first founded as Directory Marketing, Inc. by Kari Simpson who worked in the advertising industry for more than 15 years before she saw a missing link between directory publishers and ad agencies.She started Directory Marketing, Inc. in 1998 to provide direct marketing solutions for directory publishers. In 2011, realizing the importance of online media as a lead driving source for local businesses, Kari started Digital Marketing Inc.
The initial goal was to provide an alternate revenue source for the directory publishers she represented, supporting them through fulfillment, product and sales training, and customer service. As local businesses discovered the digital capabilities of DMI, she began acquiring more and more direct local businesses as clients.
